From A Distance

On Sunday February 3rd 2019 I took an afternoon walk around the gardens on the south cliff. It was a lovely afternoon with the sunshine slowly melting the ice patches that were still on the paths and grass verges.

I started to think about all the photo-shoots I had done in these gardens through the years and of course, the best view was looking back over the bay towards the castle headland and my home town crowded around the south bay to shelter from the north east winds.

This shot was taken on January 12th 2019.

I was in position for the brilliant red and pink sky before sunrise. I took a glance over my shoulder and saw this beautiful view of Scarborough glittering with lights as daybreak crept over the horizon.

The shelter in the foreground is very old but kept in reasonable condition by the council. It's an open shelter with no glass in the window openings so very cold when the wind is from the north or east.

Yet another shot of the unmistakable view of the castle headland and south bay. This was taken in the beautiful light of a springtime morning. May 8th 2018 and the young leaves on the tree are starting to take on the deeper green hue of late spring - early summer.

I thought the tree framed the view nicely.

The only sad memory I have of taking this shot is that my beloved Retriever "Kobe" was with me at my side when I took it. He is no longer with me, but the memories will always be in my mind.

This scene has been photographed so many times by so many photographers.

There was a period a couple of years ago when the boat was missing. The reason for it's absence was it had been borrowed for a "Yorkshire Garden" display at The Chelsea Flower Show.

This shot was taken before it's London trip.

I took this one on April 25th 2016 at daybreak.

I love the moody sky at dawn and the spring flowers surrounding the boat like waves of white foam.

The last one for now.

I don't want boredom to set in by going on too long.

The same view across the bay but from a location that not so many have photographed from.

This shot was taken mid-summer on 26th July 2018. So the sun was well up in the sky by the time I got down there at around 6am.

No...I don't photograph very many sunrise scenes in summer. I'm dedicated, but I'm not getting up at 3:30am many times in the summer months. At my age, it takes me a week to recover...

The location of the shot was on the footpaths beyond the clock tower on the Esplanade.

Well that's it for today. I've enjoyed putting together another blog. I hope you have enjoyed looking at it.

Another blog will follow soon....I hope !!
