Beautiful Scarborough

I suppose I have been as guilty as most Scarborians in not noticing the beauty of the place we live in.

I was born here and took it for granted. Not until I started taking an interest in Landscape photography did I notice the stunning beauty of this coast and the jewel in the crown that is Scarborough.

Like most locals, I moan and complain about the state of the local infrastructure and lack of facilities.

But, if you can see past the bad points, the good points come into view more and more.

Early morning photography is my favourite.

The beauty of sunrise as the street lamps

start to go out in the urban streets creates an enchanting atmosphere.

This is my type of photography. It can be a challenge technically to get the exposure of the shot right, but the end result justifies all the messing about to get the right illumination of the scene.

I don't use a flash gun on any of my landscape shots, relying solely on the available natural light around me. To do this, one of the most important pieces of kit I use is a tripod.

I could not function on a photo-shoot without a tripod. It provides me with a rock solid platform for my camera, so the exposure time can be as long as I want it to be without any shaking of the camera and subsequent blurring of the image.

Finding new locations is always a difficult procedure.

I first do my "homework" at home using google street view. I then use a computer "App" that plots the sun's direction on any given day or time of day at any time of the year. After doing that, I usually visit the location to see for myself how it looks. Then, and only then will I wait for the right weather conditions to go out on the photo-shoot. It seems a lot of messing about, but worth it in the long run. I know what the scene looks like before I venture out to photograph it.

Right, Iv'e waffled on enough for today's blog. I think it's time to give it a rest and make myself a nice cup of coffee.

Thank you for reading...
